Die Wurzelsepps – Das Ich Weiß Nicht - Keine Ahnung TAPE
(Karotten-Records, 1992) [DE]
A really fantastic cassette tape from German indie pop group Die Wurzelsepps. Really catchy, fast-paced pop songs. Some songs in English and some sung in German.
Debonaire is an obscure Japanese indie pop group, this is their self released 7" from 1989. The band formed 1985 in Osaka, Japan. They are one of the oldest neo acoustic/guitar pop groups in Japan. They seem to have re-appeared around 2015 and released a collections CD, and a new 7" single in 2019.
Another compilation cassette tape that I know very little about -- there's no entry for it on Discogs. Information I found online that it was released in 1987. A lot of time with these indie pop tape compilations they have a TON of tracks, with only a few heaters. But, I feel this tape compilation is VERY strong -- in that it has a lot of bangers. I really love the track from The Dentists and The Rain.
(Donut Friends [none] & And Then The Bear Left [BL-001], 1995) [USA]
A split 7" between The Man I Fell in Love With & No@h. Two bands from Ohio. Great fuzzy lo-fi shoegaze type stuff, emphasis on the lo-fi. I bought this obviously for The Man I Fell in Love With -- but the two No@h tracks are not bad! Recorded during the month of June 1995.
A punk rock / emo compilation LP out on Donut Friends records from 1994. I sought it out because it has the first release and earliest release of Ohio emo group The Man I Fell in Love With .. who is one of my absolute faves. Not too many of the emo bands I rocked out with in high school hold up for me now in 2023, but that bade surely does. In an earlier post I had added their 7".
A small 7" compilation on Over The Wall records. Not sure how this came about, but features three lo-fi California indie rock bands: Further, Diskothi-Q, and Poastal. Apparently, this record came without covers -- so, when it was distributed some got handmade covers. I made my own to house the 7". Pics are of my handmade cover.
Tracklisting:
01 - Poastal - Sunshine Boy
02 - Diskothi-Q - The Day That Love Rock Came To Our House
Here's one my absolute favorite releases in the past 5 or so years .... Indonesia indie pop group Odd Gesture. This 7" release from 2018 on Shenzhen, China record label BoringProductions.
The second tape release by Kent, Ohio emo outfit Harriet The Spy from 1994 on Donut Friends (the label is also run by Jamie Stillman of Harriet The Spy) Probably my favorite Harriet The Spy material!
Another group I know very little about, Soda-Pop. This cassette tape appears on Japanese indie pop label Galaxy Train from 1999. To me it sounds like a Japanese indie pop group from that time, so I will assume they are a Japanese group. But on Discogs, some of the members names appear British? Chissà!
Split flexi disc release from England's Mighty Mighty and Scotland's The Clouds. The first flexi disc released of twee label Sha La La from 1987. This is a rougher/demo version of Mighty Mighty's song 'Throwaway.'
