A 7" single release by Spanish indiepop group Zipper, from 2010 on Spanish indie label Elefant Records. Number four in the label's "New Adventures in Pop" series of releases.
In my opinion, Eggplant's best material is their 7" singles. They do have an LP which I enjoy, but they really put out some fantastic singles and this one is no exception.
The Great Unraveling - Space Travel / Left With Only Out 7"
(Vermiform – [VMFM 25], 1996) [USA]
Another short-lived band that I think gets often overlooked is The Great Unraveling from Baltimore, Maryland featuring Tonie Joy [Moss Icon, Born Against, Universal Order of Armageddon]. Released on Vermiform in 1996. Love the simple art for this one too, always stood out to me.
A great 7" single from Kent, Ohio's The Party of Helicopters released on band member Jamie Stillman's label Donut Friends in 1996. Some of my favorite tracks of theirs on this one.
A ton of great indiepop music out of Scotland, and Bubblegum Lemonade [Lawrence McCluskey] is no exception! I adore this CDEP, the band's first release. The final track being a cover of 'That Thing you Do!' from the 1996 Tom Hanks film, as originally performed by the "Oneders".
Life Without Buildings - Live At The Annandale Hotel CD
(Gargleblast Records – [GARGLE005CD], 2007) [SCOT]
Here's what I listened to in full on my train ride home yesterday. And I'm glad I did. With having released only one album and a couple of singles, what better than a live recording! Fantastic energy here hearing the Scottish band Life Without Buildings playing in Sydney, Australia, 14 December 2002.
I'm always discovering new-to-me music and I have to say I am late on hearing about crooner Richard Hawley. Of all places, I discovered him in an Instagram story, just a snippet, and I downloaded his album 'Cole's Corner' and I fell in love! This is a single of the era of Cole's Corner featuring an alternative version of an album track 'Hotel Room', as well as a live acoustic song, and an odd-ball cover of Jesus & Mary Chain's 'Some Candy Talking', my favorite.
A late 7" single from England's Brighter, released on Sarah Records in 1991. Like most Sarah Records, a nice blend of melancholic poppy optimism and demure sad dirges.
A 7" single from Heavenly for K Record's International Pop Underground series, year 1991. Track B is a reworking of "Wish Me Gone" from their LP 'Heavenly Vs. Satan.'
A CDEP release from the year 2000 by California lo-fi indie rockers Grandaddy. Hard to chose a favorite song of theirs, for me, but 'The Crystal Lake' is up there! An extra track here on the CDEP not on the 7" release.
Japanese shoegaze band Cruyff in the Bedroom with their first album released in 2002. It's one of those CDs I wish would get a vinyl release ultimately.
