St. Christopher & El viaje de las flores - Split FLEXI
(Stamp – [STAMP002], 1990) [ESP/UK]

In the late 80s / early 90s a Spanish indie pop label and fanzine, Stamp, released three FLEXI discs featuring an UK indie pop group paired with a Spanish indie pop group. The three flexis were the labels only releases. Earlier in the blog I already posted the flexi of Jesse Garon & The Desperadoes with Los Vegetales. Going to share the two other release now, starting first with this one of St. Christopher and El viaje de las flores

Later in 2014, another Spanish indie pop label, Discos Walden, released the three Spanish tracks that previously appeared on their own 7" record.

Chestnut Bakery - Dust / To Sylvie 7"
(BoringProductions ‎– [BoringProductions 018], 2018) [CHN]

I don't know much about this Chinese indie pop group chestnut bakery, or do I know anything about indie pop from China. Wish I could learn more! Two sweet sounding pop songs from 2018.

THE SUNSHINE POWER EXPRESS - SELF TITLED 7" (MOTORWOLF [MOTORWOLF 004], 1997) [NED]

The Sunwheel Power Express - Self Titled 7"
(Motorwolf – [MOTORWOLF 004], 1997) [NED]

Another stoner rock single, this time from (I believe..) Dutch group The Sunwheel Power Express. Released on Dutch label Motorwolf in 1997. Like Charles Manson, Japanese cult leader Shoko Asahara, seems to be popular imagery for metal bands.

Shrapnel - Combat Love 7"
(Salute Records – SLT 2001 / SLT 2002], 1979) [USA]

After my last post of Monster Magnet, it reminded me how much I love this song and single from
Shrapnel. Also, featuring a young Dave Wyndorf [of Monster Magnet, pointing the gun at us].

MONSTER MAGNET - EVIL 12" (GLITTERHOUSE RECORDS [GR 0204], 1992) [USA]

Monster Magnet - Evil 12"
(Glitterhouse Records – [GR 0204], 1992) [USA]

A great 12" single released on German label Glitterhouse Records by the NJ stoner metal band

London-based heavy metal / stoner rock band Orange Goblin with a 10" two-song single on Man's Ruin Records in 1997. The B-Side featuring a Black Sabbath cover (how doom!)

FU MANCHU - GODZILLA 10" (MAN'S RUIN RECORDS [MR-048], 1997) [USA]

Fu Manchu - Godzilla 10"
(Man's Ruin Records – MR-048], 1997) [USA]

I love these stoner metal 10" singles on Man's Ruin Records from the 90s. Just killin' it with monster riffs. This one by Fu Manchu opens with a cover of heavy rock favorites Blue Öyster Cult.

MEAT WHIPLASH - DON'T SLIP UP 7" (CREATION RECORDS [CRE 020], 1985) [UK]

Meat Whiplash - Don't Slip Up 7"
(Creation Records – CRE 020], 1985) [UK]

A Scottish indie noise pop group that had only this one release on Creation Records in 1985. Meat Whiplash had a sound very similar to Jesus & Mary Chain, and why only one single and two songs?? They could have been equally huge. I had a particularly noisy weekend with work crews digging outside -- so, this next string of uploads will be exceptionally loud and noisy as well.

NEW SWEET BREATH & SINKHOLE - SPLIT 7" (RINGING EAR RECORDS [RER 016], 1996) [USA]

(Ringing Ear Records – [RER 016], 1996) [USA]

Another split 7" between Seattle band New Sweet Breath and possibly Boston band Sinkhole also from 1996. Awful cover art, but great songs.

MEDICINE - NEVER CLICK 12" (BEGGARS BANQUET PRIMARY [ARB 3T], 1993) [USA]

Medicine - Never Click 12"
(Beggars Banquet Primary – [ARB 3T], 1993) [USA]

The third 12" single release from LA's

MEDICINE - ARUCA 12" (CREATION RECORDS [CRE 135T], 1992) [USA]

Medicine - Aruca 12"
(Creation Records – [CRE 135T], 1992) [USA]

The first single release of Los Angeles noise-rock / shoegaze band Medicine, released on Creation Records, in support of their first album. I feel like this early material is pretty close to an American MBV. The band also played themselves in the film The Crow.

CHAIN LETTER - PRELUDE TO CHERRY LETTER EP 7" (ROVER RECORDS [ROV 012], 1999) [JP]

Chain Letter - Prelude to Cherry Letter EP 7"

LA CASA DE EMMA - DESVENTURA DE VERANO TAPE (JUNKO RECORDS [JNK-013], 2019) [CHILE]

La casa de Emma - Desventura de verano TAPE
(Junko Records – [JNK-013], 2019) [CHILE]

Honestly, the only Chilean indie pop band that I know of (an I am sure there are more! I'd like to hear them as well). But, I had to check out this band with the name '
La casa de Emma' [Spanish: Emma's House], and the obvious reference to twee-greats The Field Mice. This tape did not disappoint! I love the track Cajita Musical.

BEST COAST - THE SUN WAS HIGH (SO WAS I) 7" (ART FAG RECORDINGS [AF007], 2009) [USA]

Best Coast - The Sun Was High (So Was I) 7"
(Art Fag Recordings – [AF007], 2009) [USA]

I've loved this 7" single release from
Best Coast ever since I saw the music video on YouTube probably in 2009 when it came out. The video features footage of the French film "Un homme et une femme" [A Man and a Woman]
starring Anouk Aimée and Jean-Louis Trintignant. I had just seen the film and felt the music fit well with the sentimental dreaminess of the film.

MARY-GO-ROUND - PLAYS GOLDEN HITS 7" (A WEST SIDE FABRICATION [WE 016], 1990) [SWE]

Mary-Go-Round - Plays Golden Hits
(A West Side Fabrication – [We 016], 1990) [SWE]

A 7" single release from Swedish indie pop group Mary-Go-Round. Swedish indie pop is so good! So many stellar bands -- this is one of the lesser known ones, but does not make it any lesser, this 7" infact slays. I only wish they sung more in the original Swedish language -- but they all have such an impressive grasp of English it makes sense for broad appeal. These songs sound as if they could have been huge radio hits, to me.

THE PRAMS - SICK • SAD WORLD EP 7" (DISCOS DE KIRLIAN [DK24], 2015) [USA]

The Prams - Sick • Sad World EP 7"
(Discos de Kirlian – [DK24], 2015) [USA]

Another group I don't know very much about. This 7" release from American indie pop group
The Prams came out on Spanish label Discos de Kirlian in a limited edition of 100 in 2015. Super fast, kinetic, off the wheels and upbeat indie pop.

SPLITTING THE ATOM - SPLITTING THE ATOM (PARTS ONE AND TWO) 7" (DUOPHONIC SUPER 45S [DS45-17], 1997) [UK]

Splitting The Atom - Splitting The Atom (Parts 1 and 2) 7"
(Duophonic Super 45s – DS45-17], 1997) [UK]

A 7" single release, and the only release, from '
Splitting The Atom'. From as far as I can tell it's kind of a combination of members of Sonic Boom and Stereolab, released on Stereolab's label Duophonic Super 45s in 1997.

18 WHEELER - SUNCRUSH 12" (AUGUST RECORDS [CAUG 10T], 1993) [UK]

18 Wheeler - Suncrush 12"
(August Records – [CAUG 10T], 1993) [UK]

THE KOROVA MILK BAR - RAIN GIRLS & GENTLE GIRLS 10" (BLUE-VERY LABEL [BLVD-017], 2021) [JP]

The Korova Milk Bar - Rain Girls & Gentle Girls 10"
(blue-very label – [blvd-017], 2021) [JP]

A 10" release from Japanese indie guitar pop group The Korova Milk Bar. Members of Johnny Dee and 101 Dalmatians.

If you can't tell from some of my uploads, I am a big fan of alternative versions of songs, whether that be demos, live recordings, covers, or in this case, it's a new band revisioning one of their older bands' songs - and that just does it for me! Here on some tracks Korova Milk Bar does newer versions of their previous Johnny Dee songs.

WOULD-BE-GOODS - THE CAMERA LOVES ME 7" (ÉL, CHERRY RED [GPO 39], 1988) [UK]

Would-Be-Goods - The Camera Loves Me 7"
(Él, Cherry Red – [GPO 39], 1988) [UK]

The second 7" single from Would-Be-Goods, released in 1988, which feature two perfectly crafted pop tunes. Well in the style of Él Records.

AVENTURAS DE KIRLIAN - SELF TITLED LP (DRO [3D-0648], 1989) [ESP]

Aventuras de Kirlian - Self Titled LP
(DRO – [3D-0648], 1989) [ESP]

Aventuras de Kirlian is a Spanish indie pop band from San Sebastián (Gipuzkoa, Basque Country) from 1985 to 1989. They became Le Mans in the 1990s. This is their sole LP release, if you could call it a long-player more like a mini-album, clocking in just over 17 minutes long. Kind of the start of all Spanish indie pop.
